Sand blown by the wind fills the harbor over time and covers the city to a large extent. Some of the ruins that can be seen in the city today were unearthed under the sands in a well-preserved condition.

It is understood from the ruins of the station that the Patara radio telegraph station, which served for 7 years as a communication network during the Ottoman Empire, was severely damaged during the bombardment of the Italian navy in 1911 during the Ottoman-Italian war.
